Minecraft Multiplayer on PS4/PS5 outage

Minecraft Multiplayer on PS4 and PS5 is experiencing an (partial) outage. This is outside of our control. We expect this to be resolved soon. You may not be able to join (crossplay) multiplayer and servers during this time.

Version Support Update: Update

We will soon be reverting the change that removed 1.16.40 support from The Hive.

To bring you the best possible experience, we use modern features that require recent client versions. Only supporting the most recent client allows us to keep our server light and easily maintainable, which results in a better experience (less lag, so to say).

However, it is clear that updates 1.16.100 and 1.16.200 have multiple issues that prevent a portion of our players from enjoying Minecraft. We suggest that players affected by issues in these versions communicate these issues to Mojang, who are able to resolve them. Good ways of doing this is reporting and upvoting bugs on MoJira and leaving feedback on the Minecraft feedback website. The Hive always advocates for the best experience for our players, but it's important you make your voice heard to Mojang directly.

We must note that this is a temporary extension to the 1.16.40 support. Future Minecraft versions will introduce complex changes that will render 1.16.40 support unmaintainable.

The Survival Games update uses features only available in 1.16.100 and up and will not be playable by those on 1.16.40.

North America region stutters

We are continuing to look into issue with stutters, mainly on the North America region. These usually occur during busier times on the region.

To be clear, these stutters do not mean The Hive is running at capacity, but are caused by a software bug.

We hope to resolve this soon. If you are encountering this issue, you can try re-connecting as this may help improve your experience.

Hive: Bedrock Edition

Any rumours about The Hive: Bedrock edition closing are completely false. Hive Games is a perfectly healthy company and our Bedrock server is thriving. We have NO plans, in any way, to close The Hive: Bedrock Edition.

Small Change Roundup - First Edition

Historically, we've used this page to report on game updates, events, important issues, version support, and maintenance announcements. However, small changes, features and bug fixes have often slipped through the cracks, only to be noticed by very dedicated players or those hawking the bug threads on our forums.

As we see the value in sharing these updates with the community, we're starting this 'small change roundup': a at-most-weekly collection of updates we normally wouldn't have reported on! We might skip a week when there's little to report on, or when the company is closed during a festive period (Christmas, New Year).

As this is our first edition, let's go over some base principles:

  • We'll generally not cover changes and updates that are covered by bigger announcements. For example, these wouldn't contain references to the Winter Update.
  • Changes related to security, exploits, and anti cheat, except fixes for false positives, will not be covered.
  • Non-server and non-code changes (think forums, Discord, policy) will not be covered
  • "Framework" refers to the 'base' that all our games run on. Framework updates apply to all games.
  • "Server" refers to our individual game server software. Server updates apply to all games and hubs.
  • "Proxy" refers to the proxy layer between our individual servers and your client. You'll see updates to friends, parties, and other social systems here.

Updates since December 1st, 2020

  • Once all minions are destroyed, only the large circle icon will remain alongside the health % of the boss treasure
  • Once destroyed, the circular icon is replaced with a cross out version alongside the remaining players of the team

Capacity Update - North America Region

As we work with our provider to immensely scale up our North America region, we will redirect part of our traffic to Europe overnight.

You can always use the Region NPC in the hub to switch to a specific region.

We expect to have this fully resolved before the weekend.
