1.13 Update News

Hey everyone!

As you might be aware, many servers are currently having some teething issues with the new 1.13 release that came out earlier this week. We're making good progress and would like to update you where we stand with bugs, updates and features surrounding this release.

Skin Support

This release introduced the character creator, dubbed Persona. We decided to not support Persona on day one, for a variety of reasons. The principal reason, however, was our multiple version support. We hear your feedback though, and we're doing our best to make sure that when skins return, Persona skins shall be fully supported.

Unfortunately, 1.13 also made changes to previous skin formats. These changes meant our costumes, marketplace skins, and other assets caused errors in the client. We thought we caught as many of these before launch; however we underestimated the scale of the changes. Release day saw new formats and data we didn't expect, resulting in further client errors and as a result, invisible players.

We've undertaken a complete rewrite to our skin systems to rectify these issues and support Persona. It's our top priority to get this out ASAP.

Poor FPS

We've seen many players concerned at the bad performance their device is getting when playing on The Hive. In particular, when in the hub or other highly-populated areas.

Minecraft/Mojang is aware of this issue and is looking into the cause. We are hopeful they will be able to patch this in the future.

In the meantime, we're making some changes to try and ease this. We're going to take extra steps to reduce particles, reduce entity count, and lower the number of other players in each hub.

Client Crashes

This is a huge priority for us. We've already patched some crashes related to Ghosts in Ghost Invasion and have a fix staged for firework explosions.

If you are experiencing client crashes, please submit a report on our forum. Your information helps us fix these problems much faster.

Game Bugs

Eating in Survival Games, swimming dead players, and other various bugs will all have fixes deployed shortly.

In conclusion, this update has taught us a lot. We'll be taking a more aggressive approach to future updates, making sure we support betas as soon as we can, helping us catch these issues earlier.

We hugely appreciate the community's understanding as we fix these problems. Things will be back to normal in no time! If you find any more issues that aren't mentioned above, don't hesitate to post them on our forums or discord. It helps us a lot!
