Recent versions of Minecraft have a performance issue where encountering other players with capes can lead to excessive frame rate stutters/freezes.

As this worsens the player experience, we have hidden capes on other players by default. If you wish, you can re-enable them using a new toggle in /toggles, but we caution against this as it will bring back these issues. You'll always see your own cape.

We expect this to be resolved in a future version of Minecraft, at which point we will re-enable capes and remove the toggle.

This is currently live in North America and Europe, with the Asia region following later today.
