BedWars Custom Server Bots: Update 2

We’ve made additional changes and improvements to Bots in BedWars Custom Servers based on feedback left on the feedback form (use ‘Bot Opponents’).

Bots remain only available in custom servers, and for select matches for brand new BedWars players. Bots are not present in regular BedWars lobbies.

Duos & Squads

  • Bots are now available on Duos and Squads custom servers

  • Use Bots Per Team to choose how many bots join each team. By default, bots fill every empty slot

  • Bots fill empty slots on your own team too, so you can team up with bots against other bot teams

Teamwork

  • Bots on the same team now take on different roles. While their bed is standing, one teammate will usually stay home to defend it (a human teammate staying home counts too)

  • Bots now rush together. Rushing teammates gather first and set off as a group, instead of trickling across one at a time

  • Bots avoid rushing a well-defended bed alone

  • When a group reaches an enemy bed, one bot goes for the bed while the others fight off the defenders

  • Bots now help teammates that are being attacked, and focus on the same enemy

  • Bots no longer shoot arrows when a teammate is in the way

  • Bots no longer get in each other's way on narrow bridges. A bot walking behind a teammate now follows them instead of backing off

  • Teammates now share bed defense work instead of all building on the same spot

  • Bots spread out across diamond and emerald generators instead of crowding the same one

  • Later in the game, a team of bots will sometimes band together to rush, hunt or gather resources as a group, especially once they're well geared

Playing With Bot Teammates

  • Bots no longer break blocks placed by their human teammates

  • Bots leave a share of generator drops for their human teammates, instead of picking up everything

  • Bots always make way for their human teammates on narrow bridges

Strategy

  • After killing a bed's defender, bots now go for the bed instead of wandering off

  • Bots now go for an enemy bed when they find themselves near it with nobody defending it

  • Bots can now buy items at another team's shop when it's safe to do so

  • Normal and Hard bots now make sure they have a pickaxe before rushing a bed defended with concrete or deepslate

  • Bots no longer keep chasing players they can't reach.

  • Bots no longer flip-flop between targets when several players attack them at once

Movement

  • Bots can now jump-bridge. Hard bots do it perfectly, while Normal bots will sometimes fumble. Easy bots bridge the regular way

  • Bots now sprint-jump along safe paths to get around faster

  • Clutching has been improved. Instead of only placing a block straight down, bots now build toward where they'll land

  • Hard bots clutch almost every time, while Normal and Easy bots will miss more often, especially when they've just been hit

  • Bots can now switch to their sword and hit back mid-clutch, then keep placing blocks

Combat Fairness

  • Hard bots now fight more like a skilled human player:

    • Bots can no longer hit from further away than a player could

    • Clicks are no longer frame-perfect

    • Aim is no longer perfect. Bots have to track moving players and can miss

    • Bots now take a realistic amount of time to react when a fight starts

  • Bots can no longer hit players through walls, glass, fences or other blocks

  • Easy and Normal bots have received the same changes, and remain easier than Hard

Custom Server Settings

  • Added a new Bots category, near the top of the settings menu, with the two settings most hosts need:

    • Fill With Bots

    • Bot Difficulty

  • The default Bot Difficulty is now Normal

  • Added a Bots (Advanced) category to fine-tune how bots play:

    • Bots Per Team: How many bots join each team (Duos and Squads)

    • Teammate Bot Difficulty: The difficulty of bots on your team

    • Enemy Bot Difficulty: The difficulty of bots on all-bot teams

    • Play Style: Make every bot a Rusher, Balanced, Turtle or Hunter, or leave it on Mixed so each bot picks its own

    • Bot Teamwork: Turn off roles, group rushes and helping teammates (bots always respect human teammates)

    • Bows & Potions: Whether bots buy and use bows and potions

    • Aim Style: Human aims like a player, Precise never misses (harder)

    • Bridging: Slow, Normal or Fast

    • Clutching: Whether bots place blocks to save themselves from falls

    • Bot Nameplate Tag: Show a BOT tag above bots' heads
