BedWars Custom Server Bots: Update 1

Thank you to everyone that tried Custom Server bots and left feedback! A lot of these improvements are a direct result from community feedback on the feedback form (use ‘Bot Opponents’), please keep the feedback coming.

We will look at expanding bots to duos and squads, as well as the SkyWars minigame in the future. If there are other minigames you’d like to see bots in, please leave your reasoning as a comment on this post (not the BedWars feedback form).

Detailed information about bot opponents is available in this article.

Bots remain only available in custom servers, and for select matches for brand new BedWars players. Bots are not present in regular BedWars lobbies.

Custom Server Features

  • You can now set yourself (and other human players) as spectators, to easily spectate a full bot game without the need of eliminating yourself/rejoining.

Items & Shopping

  • Bots can now use every item, potion and gadget exactly as players do, including Lassos, Springs, Minecarts, Dynamite, Rocket Boots, Potion Orbs and Antidotes

    • We’ve also improved how bots are affected by human players using these items/gadgets on them, for a more realistic experience

  • Bots now prioritise buying armor

  • Hard bots will now purchase Chainmail Armor

  • Bots no longer hoard diamonds, so they purchase team upgrades sooner

Movement

  • Bot movement now matches player movement, including knockback, jumping, slime blocks, honey blocks, beds, cobwebs and sneaking at edges

  • Bots fall into the void far less often

  • Bots can now clutch. When knocked off an edge, bots can place a block beneath themselves to save themselves

    • Hard bots will almost always land the clutch, while Easy bots will only succeed some of the time

  • Bots no longer walk into pits or holes to pick up dropped items

  • Bots now face the blocks they place and break, like a real player aiming

Combat

  • Improved bot hit timing; bots no longer waste swings on jump attacks

  • Bots can now hit back while taking knockback

  • Bots now turn and fight when chased, instead of running away

  • Bots now fight back when attacked on their own island, instead of hiding at their generator

  • Bots now try to position themselves so their hits knock players into the void

  • Easy and Normal bots now click slightly slower than Hard bots, making the difficulty levels more different

We suggest experienced players set bots to HARD difficulty for the best experience.

Play Styles

  • Added bot play styles (personalities). Each bot is now assigned one of the following:

    • Rusher

    • Diamond Hunter

    • Mid Runner

    • Turtle: Builds extra defences

    • Hunter: Chases down players

    • Balanced

We’re open to suggestions for additional play styles to make bot rounds feel more realistic and unique!

Strategy

  • Bots can now break a bed from where they stand if they can already see it

  • Bots no longer get stuck next to beds they can't reach

  • After respawning, bots now come up with a new strategy instead of rushing an enemy bed with an empty inventory

Other Changes

  • Bots now have team-coloured name tags

  • Kill messages now show the killer's name in their team colour

  • Improved support for bots in replays

    • Bots are always clearly marked as being bots

    • Bots can not be reported for rule breaking from any interface

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where bots could get stuck after spawning on some maps

  • Fixed a bug where the health bar displayed incorrectly when Max Health was set lower than the default

  • Fixed a bug where bots set to low Max Health would effectively break the whole round
