Small Change Roundup: December 17th 2020 - January 8th 2021

This is our second small change roundup, where we feature changes not covered in individual update posts. Please note that this roundup includes multiple holidays, on which the company was closed. It also spans the New Years update/event, which is not included in this post.

Updates since December 17th, 2020

Framework

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where when trying to teleport to players that had died/logged off as a spectator, it would teleport you to a random player

Treasure Wars

Changes

  • Introduced a new SkyWars-style play area system, which stops players camping over the build height, and below the minimum play height

Fixes

  • Fixed Rainbow Swirls Treasure Particles
  • Modified Play Region logic to allow for "Clutch Pearls" again

Hide and Seek

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Hiders could remain hidden by jumping onto the edge of an adjacent block

Murder Mystery

Survival Games

Changes

  • Added support for 100 player (solo mode) custom servers

Server / Proxy

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where some unlocks would not be searchable as their name contained spaces
  • Fixed an issue where shift opening a door would be desync'd allowing the player opening the door to walk through it
  • Fire damage now properly penetrates armor over time (vanilla parity)
  • Vines are now destroyed if there is not a vine above, or the direction is not the same
  • Vines can now only be placed on solid blocks
  • Buckets no longer place 'ghost liquid' in certain scenarios
  • Fixed off-hand not being cleared in certain games/scenarios

Changes

  • Added /queue help [page]: a command that lists all the games that are queue-able along with their aliases in a nice paged message list
  • Added support for new Persona format (this allows the usage of, for example, the free Character Creator items from the Creator Celebration)


Small Change Roundup - First Edition

Historically, we've used this page to report on game updates, events, important issues, version support, and maintenance announcements. However, small changes, features and bug fixes have often slipped through the cracks, only to be noticed by very dedicated players or those hawking the bug threads on our forums.

As we see the value in sharing these updates with the community, we're starting this 'small change roundup': a at-most-weekly collection of updates we normally wouldn't have reported on! We might skip a week when there's little to report on, or when the company is closed during a festive period (Christmas, New Year).

As this is our first edition, let's go over some base principles:

  • We'll generally not cover changes and updates that are covered by bigger announcements. For example, these wouldn't contain references to the Winter Update.
  • Changes related to security, exploits, and anti cheat, except fixes for false positives, will not be covered.
  • Non-server and non-code changes (think forums, Discord, policy) will not be covered
  • "Framework" refers to the 'base' that all our games run on. Framework updates apply to all games.
  • "Server" refers to our individual game server software. Server updates apply to all games and hubs.
  • "Proxy" refers to the proxy layer between our individual servers and your client. You'll see updates to friends, parties, and other social systems here.

Updates since December 1st, 2020

Framework

Fixes

  • Stopped custom servers from showing "finding a new game" at the end of a game, and replaced it with "sending you to a hub" instead.
  • Stopped "we'll find you a new game shortly..." from appearing in the end game stats panel if it's a custom server
  • Fixed an issue with VIP ranks losing the permission to change the max players past 30 if they were nicknamed

Changes

  • Disabled any and all sign editing

SkyWars

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Boom Boxes would explode the map if they exploded during endgame

DeathRun

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Leap Effects would not spawn when the game started, only when they were equipped
  • Fixed various particles

TreasureWars

Changes

Changed the Treasure Wars Mega UI to include more pieces of information:

  • Minion Treasures are represented by mini circles
  • Each mini icon is removed when a minion is destroyed, and removed from the bar based on the direction you're facing from spawn
  • Once all minions are destroyed, only the large circle icon will remain alongside the health % of the boss treasure
  • Once destroyed, the circular icon is replaced with a cross out version alongside the remaining players of the team

Fixes

  • When a player is dead and their treasure is destroyed players could see the team upgraded summoner message, this is now resolved.
  • Fixed various particles

Hide and Seek

Fixes

  • Fixed Blue Gas Cloud Taunt particle

Murder Mystery

Fixes

  • Fixed Sparkle Zapper Trail Cosmetics particles

Server / Proxy

Fixes

  • Resolved various issues relating to modal input being rejected, for example, large numbers.
  • Fixed an issue where axes would lose lots of durability when stripping wood/logs
  • Chains now have the correct bounding box
  • End portal frames now have the correct bounding box
  • Coral blocks can now be placed on any block
  • Coral now requires a block below it
  • Coral blocks, Coral and Coral fans correctly place the right color
  • Coral fans & Coral hanging now drop / middle click the correct block
  • Coral block / Coral now drop / middle click the correct block
  • Fixed bug where water buckets would use the wrong position for placement events
  • Buckets now correctly work
  • Fixed fireworks charge being mis-identified causing fire charges to break
  • Fixed an issue where capes would not be updated due to the client caching the skin id
  • Allowed ray tracing packs on 1.16.200+



SkyWars Changelog 19/05

We've just started rolling out a new version of SkyWars, focusing on fixing some minor gameplay issues and bugs. You'll see this version appear on games over the next few hours.

Gameplay

  • Ender Pearls will no longer cause death, but instead, leave you with half a heart of health
  • Added play area enforcement, with minimum play height activating 3 minutes into livegame
  • Decreased rate of "unlucky TNT" when mining lucky (gold) ores

Bugs

  • Fixed "Ores Mined" lobby stat hologram
  • Fixed an issue when breaking blocks outside of your island border would result in item drops even though the block remained
  • Fixed an issue where right-click (interacting) to equip armor could cause enchantments to be lost
  • Fixed "0 hearts left" when being killed by a player with a half a heart
  • Fixed an issue where ghost boom boxes could be seen in the void
  • Fixed fire turning invisible when destroying a block beneath it

Halloween Removal and Hub FPS improvements

🦀 Halloween is gone 🦀

  • Removed Halloween hub, hunt and effects
  • Removed Ghost Invasion
  • Reverted server name and icon
  • Decreased particles in hubs
  • Decreased visible players in hub by 66%
  • Friends are always visible
  • Got a NASA PC? Run /toggleperformance to revert to pre-update player numbers
  • Decreased player skin update rate in hubs
  • Started thinking about Christmas music

Platform: Block Placement Fix

Alongside todays Quest Master preview, we're happy to announce that we've pushed fixes to block placement on The Hive.

This means placing blocks, particularly when bridging in Treasure Wars, should be much more predictable.

If you are still experiencing issues, please report them on our forums.

Version Support Update

We've released a patch for the 1.12 water rendering on our EU region. This patch will be released on the other regions at a later time.

Once this patch is released worldwide, we will be disabling 1.10 support.

We have no updates to share about our support for beta 1.13 at this time.
